Maya Sayarath Honored by NEWMAC

The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has announced its 2011 Women’s Tennis Academic All-Conference Team. Maya Sayarath of St. Johnsbury, a student-athlete at Mount Holyoke College, was named to the all-conference team for her tennis success and academic achievement as a freshman. Maya and her doubles partner, Elise Marifian, were named to the NEWMAC all-conference second team at #3 doubles last season and honored by the conference as “Doubles Team of the Week” for October 11-17, 2010. In addition, Maya was bestowed the college’s Albert Walter Award for Excellence in Chemistry. The athletic department honored Maya with the Cramer Player’s Award for her love of tennis, sportsmanship, support of teammates, and strong on-court performance. She led the team with 14 wins in singles and 6 wins in doubles. It was quite a successful first year at Mount Holyoke for Maya!

Maya is now a sophomore at Mount Holyoke. She has moved up to the #2 singles and doubles spots on the team. During the fall tennis season she had some impressive wins against higher ranked players from Amherst, MIT and Wesleyan. And she is still performing at a high level in the classroom.

NEWMAC consists of 10 highly selective institutions committed to academic excellence: Babson College, Clark University, U.S Coast Guard Academy, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Congratulations, Maya!
