» USTA League Tennis

This list is by no means comprehensive. If you don’t find the answer to the question you are looking for here, please contact your VT League Coordinators.

How do I join a team?

Once you find a league that you want to join, contact your VT League Coordinators or New Captain Player Liaison. They will introduce you to captains in that league. Once you are on a team, your captain will help you sign up online for the league and schedule you to play.

How much does it cost to play USTA league tennis?

All players must have an active USTA membership ($42). It costs $23 to register for a team, and there is a $12 fee per player, for each match played.

How do I get a rating?

If you have played in a USTA league or tournament anywhere in the past 3 years (or 2 years if you are 60 years of age of older), ten you already have a rating. Go to TennisLink to look up your rating.

If you are new to the USTA, then you will need to SELF RATE. Here are some suggestions to help you self rate correctly:

  • Check out the USTA’s video about Self Rating found on TennisLink.
  • If you take lessons, ask your coach what your rating is. If you play regularly, seek out rated USTA players for a match, and compare yourself.
  • Read the NTRP Playing Levels descriptions and select a rating that reflects your abilities.
  • If you were a ranked Junior player or played in high school or college, please refer to the General and Experienced Player Guidelines for assistance with self rating

Where do I find league rules and guidelines?

The USTA website publishes a comprehensive list of links and resources related to rules, some of which can be easily accessed by Smartphone on the court. A copy of Vermont’s Easy Reference Guide should be on the court for every match. The home captain should supply a copy for all players, but it doesn’t hurt to have the ERG in your tennis bag, just in case.

I would like to captain a team. How do I do that?

We are always looking for new, enthusiastic captains! To learn more about captaining opportunities, please contact our VT League Captain Liaison, Lynda Van Kleeck.
